S.E.A.D.S scout class
S.E.A.D.S or stealth without engagement or abomination droid system is a robot which is designed to scout an area, by remote or pre-programmed. Well, it swivels roughly 70 degrees on a mount so it avoids anything left, right and in front of it. the color sensor imitates a laser arm and is just for decorative purposes only.

The clawed hand could be replaced with a lego webcam or a phone with video properties to record or see what the robot sees.

The tracks give it better grip especially on slippery surfaces. It is designed for stealth and roaming in urban or sandy/rocky areas, where being silent is key. It also moves with a low motor speed, about 30% of the full speed and is quite effective and very silent(ish!).

It isn't the most complex project, and it was made only with one kit. Some places were tricky, especially the swivel mount so I can't post an LDD .

As of now, S.E.A.D.S is part of TEXCHEM Systems. Texchem was set up by me and is only a fictional group. I have to credit Droidfreak36 for some inspiration.

As usual, rate and comment if you can, really appreciate if you can suggest where to improve.

END?

Well, this project is a success, and by the way, the explorerbots before this were made a week and a half ago. They got torn apart, and made way for something better. I will post pictures and/or video of the drive system and swivel mount and the bot itself, so as long as my brother's bionicle doesn't tear it to bits first...... P.S- I've posted the silent version of the program here, after all it was a stealth scout bot! Also, there are some pictures of the swivel mount and drive base, yet more to come! Sorry if some photos are blurry, I was in a bit of a rush.

Conclusion?

This may not be the best bot ever, but it is a huge success. Getting the mount to hold the upper torso's weight was a problem, but it got solved and works. Also, the torso can be re-adapted as a tank turret, making the base extremely versatile. It was built with one kit, so do give it some credit. It looks ok and it works, that's all that matters right? Also the program is very simplistic, but it suited the bot fine. The specs are as listed below: Height- 30cm Length-14cm Width-13.5cm Top speed- 2.25 mph or 3.6kph weight- no more than 1.2kg

Idea and construction

I got the idea from the terminator series-1 and the HK tank, so the design was based around a rotating body with tracks. The constuction was slightly complex, especially trying to get the body on the swivel mount. Weight was no problem, since the bot only took a few beams to hold its weight. Even though the bot could swivel 70 degrees, it is a substantial amount and it could avoid more or less everything.

Abiut TEXCHEM Systems

Texchem systems© is a fictional company which specialises in droid systems, military robotics and most of all having fun. The motto is:- "When in doubt, consult a magic 8 ball" A better intro to the new fictional company coming soon.

  • Can anyone explain why I can't seem to upload a movie file, even though it's only 1Mb large?

  • I'm surprised my other projects are doing quite well, V.2 was a failure.

  • wow, that's a neat looking scout robot, but how well does it move around and can it go over obstacles?

  • Halo33boy: It has two motors which gives it basic maneuverabilty and it doesn't really get over that many obstacles, it tends to rample them, although it can climb a slope of up to 25 degrees.

  • Sorry, I meant trample

  • Also it moves around fine, I guess. I never really tried to run it at its maximum speed, so I wouldn't really know

  • Thanks to all who commented, It was a great project. Even though I didn't win, a honourable mention is probably the next best thing. Well, I would like to thank my brother for the encouragement to go on and make not one, but four projects and my friends, who were sooooo eager to see what I could come up with (or so I thought!) and everyone else, for all the nice comments. :)
