Robotic Arm
This is my ninth project on NXT log and is my first entry into the robotic arm competition. You insert your arm in the robotic arm and control it with a touch sensor. It has four claws which move at the same time to grab something. It uses the bits that made my diggers arm move in my last project to push a long thin bit towards the claw which opens the claw when the motors turn round. The claw can open 20cm wide.

Lifting Things

The robotic arm can lift quite heavy things. Like this ball in the picture. The program says when the touch sensor is pressed down the motors make the claw open and when the touch sensor is released it stops. Then when you press the touch sensor again it closes the claw and grabs the object. The video shows the Robotic arm picking up two different objects.

  • LIke all your projects I've seen, your arm is toughtfully designed and programmed. And, you are the only other person I've seen who has successfully programmed the touch sensor to run a motor when pressed and stopped when not pressed. Nice work!

  • Cool claw. I like the way it is operated. Looks like it's a 21st century pirates hook. Unfortunately, it has 0 degrees of freedom (you move it with your arm not motors). Other than that I would say that it is a great project.

  • c9220, the grapper counts. It openes and closes which is pitch so it has 1 degree of freedom. The operators arm provides all the other flexibility that is needed.
