limousine base
This is a base for a limousine. It can drive and steer. In addition, it has a ultrasonic sensor to "see" walls. I didn't wanted to make it so long (I wanted to build a transport) but the motors made it very long. This project uses two 3:1 gear translations and serveral other translations to slow the motors down. The drive has two differentials to use the power of the motor as useful as possible. It uses many gears (for my models). Since I used two motors and one sensor, it's possible to include one more motor and three more sensors into the project. Feel free to make your own limos with that. You can see the full model in the first picture. The second one shows the ultrasonic sensor. You can see the full model from the top on the 3rd picture. The ultrasonic sensor is in the right and the drive is in the left. The NXT hides the motors. I wasn't able to use the right wheels in the LDD file. I think that you can use other wheels if you don'z have the large ones. In addition, the virtual gear part needs 2x Plate 1X2 W. 1 Knob (4211451) and 1x Toothed Bar (4211450) to work. I havn't found these parts in the LDD. You can see them on the 4th picture. This is my first project here. I hope that you like it. This project is a part of the transport that JustinRach and I build.

Drive

The first step I made was the drive. On the picture, you can see the axes and the gears. The second picture shows a differential. On the 3rd picture, you can see the two differentials with the gears. They're directly connected to the wheels. The next picture shows the 3:1 gears. The motor is connected to the small gear and the wheels are connected to the larger wheel. The last picture shows the motors. They made the project much bigger.

Gear

The second part I made was the gear. It was very hard to connect the front to the rest of the moddel. You can see the technic of the gear at the first image. The second one shows the ultrasonic sensor in the front of the gear. The third shows the toothed bar. The last picture shows the gear translation I used to change the direction of the axes. The black gears are well for the propose.

  • Looks good, but is also quite complicated. Can you fit the description in German Mindstorm Forum Upload at "building group"? So that I can better understand, because the Google translator is not there very helpful.
