Suspension Truck - Explorer Bot
This is my entry to the explorerbot challenge. Yet another truck in the suspension truck series, but this time with RC, pendular suspension and very resistant gearing, thanks to knob gears. Yes, knob gears are less efficient but also easier to build with. This "explorer bot" is designed for the rough terrain of alien planets because of its AWD, high-flex pendular suspension, powerful steering, large tires, and fast but powerful gearing. Final gear ratio is 3:5 (12:20). A PowerFunctions "m" motor is used for steering because it is more compact than an NXT motor. I used converter cables to power the PF motor by the NXT.

Chassis

Here are some pics of the chassis. I used portal axles (hub gearing) to add more ground clearance. My best suspension truck on nxtlog.

Video!

Here is the video. NOTE: when the colors switch to negatives, it is not a camera malfunction, but it is representing being on an alien planet. Enjoy!

  • The suspension si pendular, so the stiffness is fine. However, I cannot do an LDD, because the model has been long since disassembled.
