LEGO Mindstorms Rubik's Cube Solver
My inspiration for this model is Hans Andersson's own Rubik's Cube Solver. I must credit his model, from which I got the idea for a stable frame and body This is a robot that can solve the standard 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube. My changes to his version are mainly a much more efficient claw, back structure and cube cradle. It takes about 5-6 minutes to solve a scramble cube, with about 50-60 face turns.

First the light sensor takes the readings of the different cube sides (and the claw flips the cube). Then the NXT brick recreates it digitally and finds three possible solutions to the cube. It executes the fastest possible solution. The cube is in the cradle, and the cradle is capable of rotating the bottom face only, so if another side needs to be turned, the claw needs to get it into the correct position. The claw's second function is to keep the top and middle layers in place while the cradle rotates the bottom of the cube.
