Paper Plane Flinger
The idea of making a paper plane flinger came to me a few weeks ago when children in my class started to build and have contests with paper planes in the classroom. I had a go with a few and started to look at how they built and what made them go faster and longer. I realised that there are two main groups of paper plane the gliders which go slow but glide a long way and planes which have a folded over nose which go very fast and go very far so I decided I would use the second type. Since then I had been puting off making a paper plane flinger because I was making robotic arms for the robotic arm contest. But now that is finished and I got an honorable mention for it I started to think about building a paper plane flinger but I still didn't build one. But then the smartmove compotition started so I finally started to make it because I though it would be a very good way of transporting information. So first I designed a long arm to catapult the paper plane into the air. Next I build a sturdy base for the NXT brick and touch sensor. After that I built a belt for the plane to land on and be delivered to the person who it was aimed to go to. Now the paper plane flinger is finished it allows you to write on a bit of paper your message put it on the catapult press the touch sensor and it fires the paper plane on to the belt which delivers it to the person at the other end. It is built to get a message to someone and is in the smartmove contest hoping to win the information category.

Arm

The arm of the paper plane flinger fires the paper plane into the air. It is powered by two motors and fires the paper plane over the NXT brick on to the moving belt.

NXT brick and touch sensor

The NXT brick and touch sensor are used for making sure the arm works properly also the touch sensor is used to activate the arm as you will see in the program.

Moving Belt

The moving belt delivers the paper plane to the person at the end. It is there so it can give the paper plane an extra boost if needed.
