The Runner-Simplest NXT Biped
My first project on NXT Log is a biped. While messing around with robots that scoot themselves around, I accidentally made an extremely simple walking robot. I call it "The Runner" because its legs move very quickly. This speed is what makes the robot walk. If the legs moved much slower than 75% power, the robot would just sway back and forth and eventually fall backward. The leg design is what makes this robot so simple. When the motors spin, the legs just slide up and down quickly and propel the robot forward. Note that the motors can not move separately--they must always move in the same direction because of the axle that keeps the legs synchronized. I included 3 pictures, building instructions, and a simple program for the robot.

  • Like most bipeds on NXTLOG, it can only go forward without great stability...

  • This doesn't work for me, it sorta does the moonwalk, then a shuffle, then falls over. I call it Spazbot. It's a great design, and a very simple program, it just doesn't work when I built it.

  • Well, it worked when I built it. Are you SURE you followed all the steps correctly, Bailey-Y?

  • Bailey-Y

  • Yeah, I did.

  • I understand your problem, Bailey-Y. The robot did that sometimes when I built it, too. Try The Walker on different flat, hard, SMOOTH surfaces to find out which works best.

  • Very nice, and there is another quadruped robot which is very simple too, called the "Crazy Quadruped".
