First Impressions of MINDSTORMS NXT Sumo Competition

MCP and MINDSTORMS NXT Sumo Competition Judge John Brost is pretty impressed buy number of entries. "The NXTLOG community really showed up in force for this one!"

"Personally, one of the things I think is pretty cool is the inventiveness of some of the entries. While there are a ton of flippers/lifters, there are also some unique strategies like Mimicry Mike , who drives around the ring with a white "skirt" hoping to fool the opponent's light sensor into thinking it is at the edge of the ring. Then there is D.S.B (Defensive Sumo Bot) , whose main strategy is to be defensive, rather than attack. It remains to be seen if any of these entries perform as expected."

That's right as the Robotics Posse still needs to construct and test these robots submitted via the web in real life!

MINDSTORMS NXT Firmware Update

This software addresses an issue on Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) that prevents updating the Firmware on the NXT.

Note: Do not attempt to update the Firmware on the NXT from a computer running Mac OS 10.5 without installing this software first.

If your NXT is clicking when you insert batteries, push the hardware reset button for five seconds before you insert the USB cable. This will ensure that the brick initializes correctly for the firmware download. The hardware reset button is located within the LEGO TECHNIC hole below the USB connector on the NXT brick. If your NXT brick is not clicking when you insert batteries just go through the normal firmware download process as described within the manual when the patch is installed.

System Requirements
Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Software version 1.0/1.1 or MINDSTORMS NXT Education Software 1.0/1.1
